We rear autism assistance dogs but It's a long process. Ultimately the assistance dogs we produce will be happy, fulfilled and highly skilled in their role - providing companionship, security and independence to so many people throughout England & Wales.
What sets Autism Labrador UK Charity apart from other charities is our unique approach of maintaining a continuous supply of premium pedigree puppies, which allows us to provide consistent, high-quality service. We carefully nurture and develop each puppy with the utmost care and attention, ensuring they have the necessary skills and temperament to become exceptional autism assistance dogs. Our focus is not only on the training but also on the individual needs of each child or young person, empowering them to live more independent and fulfilling lives. With our dedicated process, we are able to offer the very best support to families across the whole of the UK.
Our pups are hand-picked for their sociable and confident nature. The puppies that make the best support dogs will be those that love to play yet love to interact with people, too. We then start the training process, introducing them gradually to the environments and situations in which they'll be working. Training would be completed, depending upon the customers brief, between 18 months and 24 months.
Health and wellbeing
Our pups are routinely health checked. We ensure they are the correct weight, we keep them well-groomed, make sure they are happy and content, and ensure any medical ailments are treated accordingly.
We'll be closely monitoring our dogs to ensure they have the qualities required to adequately support the person they'll be partnered with. Once a potential match has been found, we'll start tailoring the dog's training to the environments and situations in which they'll be working in the future.
We specialise in breeding Labradors, which we have found to be highly trainable and exceptional as assistance dogs. Labradors make up 100% of the dogs we breed, ensuring a consistent focus on their outstanding abilities.
As dogs get older, it’s only natural that they’ll slow down and begin to tire more easily. We start considering retirement at around the age of 9, gradually reducing what the dog is expected to do until full retirement at around 11 or 12.
Usually, the owner will continue to keep the dog, if they are able – or they may wish to pass them on to close family or friends. If neither of these is possible, we will ensure the dog is rehomed with a loving family or owner.
Sponsor an Autism Labradors UK puppy for as little as £10 per month and help transform the life of a child or young person with autism. Your support will provide the essential training and care needed to guide these incredible dogs towards becoming life-changing assistance companions, offering greater independence and support to those who need it most across the UK.
